1 Installing Microsoft Visio via the Click-to-Run Installation Technology

Engineering Base uses Microsoft Visio as its graphical software. It may be that MS Visio is already installed on your personal computer as part of Microsoft Office. However, not all versions of Microsoft Visio are compatible for being used with Engineering Base. If an unsupported version of MS Visio is already installed on your computer, or if you have purchased MS Visio together with Engineering Base, you have to install MS Visio anew to run with Engineering Base.

In this case, AUCOTEC provides you with a MSI installation package of MS Visio 2016 via a download link and a Visio product key. However, if the already installed version of MS Office is based upon a different installation technology, this package cannot be installed and an error message is issued.

In that case, AUCOTEC provides you with a ZIP file Visio 2016 C2R Setup.zip which enables you to install a Click-to-Run installation of MS Visio 2016.

To run the Click-to-Run installation, your personal computer must be connected to the internet. If you need assistance to carry out the following installation, we recommend contacting the AUCOTEC Helpdesk.

To carry out the installation:

1. Ensure that you have an internet connection and administrator rights on the personal computer on which you want to install Visio. If this is not the case, please contact your system administrator.

2. Save the ZIP file in your Downloads folder so that you can use a path that is as short as possible.

3. Open the Downloads folder via the Windows Explorer, right-click the file Visio 2016 C2R Setup.zip and select Extract All... from the shortcut menu.

4. In the following dialog Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders, please confirm the preset folder name C:\Users\<User name>\Downloads\Visio 2016 C2R Setup by clicking the Extract... button.

In this example, the user name is represented symbolically. In your case, it will contain the user name that you have used to log on to MS Windows.

5. Click the Windows Start menu and enter CMD via the keyboard.

6. Right-click the option Command Prompt once it is displayed in your start menu.

7. On the shortcut menu, click Run as administrator.

This opens the command prompt.

8. Switch over to the command prompt and enter the following command using your actual user name:

cd "C:\Users\<User name>\Downloads\Visio 2016 C2R Setup"

9. After that, enter the following command:

setup /configure ./configuration_nnnn.xml

To install Visio in the required language, you also have to enter the respective language ID on entering the command. To do so, replace the place holder nnnn in the command line by the language ID outlined in the table below.

Using this command starts the installation of Visio 2016 in the required language. The necessary files are downloaded from the internet, and the installation is carried out.

10. After the installation, please start MS Visio 2016. You may get a message indicating that the product must be activated.

11. In Visio, click File / Account / Change Product Key.

12. In this section, enter the product key that you have previously received via AUCOTEC.
