Copy and Merge

The function Copy & Merge enables you to paste objects of a source project together with their equipment structure (units and devices) into a target project.

If the structure of the objects in the target project is equal to the structure of the objects in the source project, the copied objects are merged with the target structure:

The existing structure of the target project is displayed for selection before pasting: You can then decide into which branch of the target project you want to insert the objects to be copied.

The structure of the source object is only added to the structure of the destination object if the merge reference matches for both objects. The merge reference consists of the following attributes, if they are available on the object:

  • Object name (AID5) + TID (AID7) + Pin position (AID250)
  • or Position (AID261) + TID (AID7) + Pin position (AID250), if the object name is empty for the source and destination object.

If the merge references match, the destination object is kept and the associations (e.g. wire targets) of the source object are copied to the destination object if this is permitted for the destination object.

All source objects for which the merge references do not match are copied to the destination.

An alternative way of merging objects if associated sub-objects are not to be copied and merged is to use the Boolean attributes Interface relevant and Interface, which you can use to control the copying process. If, for instance, the object has the attribute Interface relevant set, the object and its pins are copied and merged, but not its nested sub-objects.
